Insane ‘war’ stuns Aussie boxing as Leti Leti claims Australian Light Heavyweight title

While Australian heavyweight champion Justis Huni is the big draw for the fight night on the Gold Coast, the first fight of the night has delivered an incredible war.

Fans were not disappointed with an incredible fight that went the 10 round distance for the title.

It’s the first of four title fights on the five fight card, culminating with Huni’s defence against Jack Maris.

But Samoan-Australian boxer Leti Leti has stepped up in weight to snatch the title in a stunning bout against defending champion Conor Wallace.

It was Wallace’s first defence of the title after claiming the vacant title against Mitchell Whitelaw in October 2019 but there was no rust as the pair slugged it out for 10 engaging rounds.

It went down to the card with the judges giving it 95-95, 96-94, 98-93 to Leti Leti as he claims the Australian Light Heavyweight title after a phenomenal fight.

“We weren’t scoring round by round and I guess you’re probably glad you weren’t because they were impossible round to score,” Fox Sports commentator Ben Damon said.

Straight after the scores, Damon said: “What about the rematch?”

“I cannot wait to see the rematch,” co-commentator Ted Cofie said. “I’ll be front and centre regardless. This was a brilliant fight, all action all the way through. If you look back at this, you can see Leti throwing shots consistently. Relentless to the body, relentless to the head with so many shots going through.”

“Wow, what a fight we’ve seen, the Australian Light Heavyweight title,” Damon added. “We’ve seen a war, there is more to come.”

Boxing fans were blown away by what they saw.

Godamn that was one of the best fights I’ve seen this year and it’s only the first fight of the night. Leti Leti and Connor Wallace went to war #HunnivsMaris

What a fight to start the night! I missed the first couple of rounds, but on what I saw I preferred the work of Leti Leti, but it sounded like Wallace controlled the opening rounds #OzBoxing

Both warriors so tough and willing, great fight!

A draw seems fair, either way no one loses
