Residents of Maphophe village alleged that someone who died in a culpable homicide incident was killed by the two assault victims.

“A group of community members marched from Maphophe village to locate these victims in Mhinga village. Police were notified, reacted swiftly and on arrival, they found that the mob had already caught the victims, assaulted them and subsequently burned these properties. The police managed to rescue the victims… and they were taken to the hospital for medical treatment with serious injuries,” police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

Limpopo police were investigating charges of public violence and attempted murder, among other charges.

“The suspects involved in these incidents are still unknown and there are no arrests. A manhunt for the suspects has since been launched… and the police are requesting anyone with information that can lead to their arrest, to contact Captain Edward Maluleke on 084 318 7877 or the Crime Stop number 08600 10111,” Ngoepe said.

He said the Public Order Police Unit was still monitoring the situation.
